The Wedge Studios building, where Asheville artist Ben Betsalel painted and exhibited for six years, was purchased in 2012 by an anonymous group of investors. Facing the change head on, Betsalel set about meeting and painting portraits of the new (somewhat controversial) investors. The series of portraits, which includes several large abstract paintings, is a farewell exhibition at Betsalel Studio + Wedge Gallery — before the space becomes a restaurant and Betsalel heads back to Mekele, Ethiopia, where he has been painting and writing for the past several months, as well as occasionally lecturing on portraiture at a local arts college.
